Sea Glass Candy

I have the honor of being a Bridesmaid in a wedding this summer. The color scheme is "sea glass" and while browsing Pinterest for ideas, we came across Sea Glass Candy. It looked great and goes perfectly with the theme, so the Maid of Honor and I decided to give it a whirl today.

There were several recipes on Pinterest, but we followed the one found on the Not So Humbe Pie blog.

What You Need:
  • 1 Cup White Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 6 Tablespoons Water
  • Gel Food Coloring (I used Wilton Sky Blue)
  • 1/2 to 1 Teaspoon Candy Flavoring Oil (We Used Cherry and Lemon)
  • Powdered Sugar
How To Make It:
  • Line the bottom of a cookie sheet with wax paper or parchment paper and spray with non-stick cooking spray (probably don't have to spray the paper, but I figured the candy would be super sticky). Can also use a baking pan.
  • In a small, non-stick sauce pan, combine sugar, water & corn syrup and place over medium heat, stirring continuously until sugar is dissolved.
  • When sugar mixture begins to simmer, attach candy thermometer and wait - do not stir - until temperature reaches 250 degrees.
  • Once 250 degrees is reached, add your food coloring. Do not stir. The bubbling will distribute the food coloring.
  • Continue simmering until 300 degrees is reached, remove from heat and stir in flavoring, being careful it doesn't splatter on you. Note: Be sure to not overheat the sugar because it can burn ....my first batch was supposed to be sky blue, but turned out dark green because the sugar started to turn brown. Oops!
  • Once flavoring is mixed in, immediately pour onto prepared cookie sheet/pan and allow to cool completely.
  • Once cool, brush or rub on powdered sugar all over surface to give it a light powdery finish.
  • Cover candy with another sheet of wax or parchment paper and hit it with a mallet or something hard to break it up into sea glass -like pieces.

This was pretty easy and you can customize your own flavors/colors. Sea glass candy would make a great favor for any nautical, mermaid, under the sea, or beach-themed party!!!

Monogrammed Onesie Cookies

Making decorations and goodies for baby showers is so much fun. The She's Ready to Pop Again popcorn box favors were so cute that I just couldn't stop there. I also made some monogrammed onesie cut-out cookies and dipped strawberries.

Strawberry season is here and they are so sweet right now. I melted some pink Wilton Candy Melts, dipped the strawberries, then rolled the bottom in light green sugar (the color scheme of the shower was pink & green).

And FYI, I bought the onesie cookie cutter at http://www.cheapcookiecutters.com/
